We're excited to offer this exclusive opportunity for Leadership Giving Circle members and their guests to join us for the always-exciting spectacle of fall migration along the Georgia coast. Each fall millions of shorebirds, songbirds, and raptors utilize the abundant resources of the Georgia coast to fuel their continued migration to Central and South America. With the possibility of watching Peregrine Falcons riding thermals down the coastline, witnessing a dizzying array of enormous flocks of Tree Swallows over the dunes, or finding newly-arrived sparrows, waterfowl, and other over-wintering species, the Georgia coast is the place to be to enjoy the best of Georgia's fall migration.
On Wednesday evening, October 19, those who have arrived are invited to join your Georgia Audubon staff hosts for an optional casual social gathering at Silver Bluff Brewery in Brunswick at 6:30 PM (1325 Newcastle Street, Brunswick, GA).
On Thursday, October 20, we'll spend a full day birding, making time to explore several different locations and habitat types. Also, weather and seas permitting, we’ll take a boat trip exploring the Altamaha River Delta at places such as the north end of Little St. Simons Island, Little Egg Island, and Wolf Island Bar (note that we will not be able to land on these islands). After returning to land, we'll have time to tidy up before gathering for a donor appreciation dinner at Reid's Apothecary in Brunswick from 6:00 to 8:00 PM (1618 Newcastle Street, Brunswick, GA).
On Friday, October 21, we'll spend the morning focusing on any coastal hotspots we may have missed the day before, such as Jekyll Island, Gould’s Inlet, and/or the Andrew’s Island Causeway (all depending on recent bird activity). The trip will end around lunchtime on Friday.
The pace of the trip will be easy to moderate, but the days will be long and full of birdwatching (early morning to late afternoon). No walks should exceed a mile, though multiple short walks are likely on a given day and can add up.

Tour Price for Leadership Giving Circle Members & Guests:
$550 per person
Registration includes:
- One and a half days of guided birding with Adam Betuel, Director of Conservation, and other Georgia Audubon staff.
- Altamaha River Delta boat cruise (covered boat with seating).
- Donor appreciation dinner on Thursday, October 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Reid's Apothecary in Brunswick (dinner and all beverages are included / Attire: Casual).
- At least two spotting scopes will be available for group use.
- Binoculars are available to borrow with advance notice. Please email Michelle Hamner by October 10 if you would like to borrow a pair of binoculars.
Registration does not include:
- Meals not specified above
- Lodging
- Transportation, entrance, and parking fees not specified above (Jekyll Island has an $8 daily entry fee per vehicle, for example)
- Items of a personal nature, such as souvenirs, laundry, medical expenses, etc.
- Travel insurance, if you choose to purchase
- Tip for boat captain (optional)

Tour Arrival & Departure:
Participants should plan to arrive into the area by the evening of Wednesday, October 19, as this trip will begin in the morning of Thursday, October 20. Each morning, the group will convene at The Courtyard by Marriott in Brunswick (580 Millennium Boulevard, Brunswick) to caravan to the first location, or you may choose to meet the group at the first destination (we will communicate the full itinerary with registered participants prior to the trip).
Meals, Transportation, & Accommodations:
Participants will be responsible for arranging their own lodging and transportation. Georgia Audubon will organize a room block at The Courtyard by Marriott Brunswick (580 Millennium Boulevard, Brunswick) for the nights of October 19 and October 20. Reservation instructions will be communicated with registered guests. The rate will be $117/night (plus applicable hotel fees and taxes). Participants may also choose to stay at the hotel/lodging of their choice, but we recommend making your lodging reservations in the area of Brunswick, Jekyll Island, or St. Simons Island. Participants will be responsible for their own meals during the tour, except for any meals specified in the registration information. Time will be set aside for meals.
Cancellation Policy:
If notice of cancellation by the participant is received by September 19, 2022, a refund of all payments made will be given, less a $50 administrative fee, as well as any credit card/ACH processing fees incurred by Georgia Audubon. Thereafter, all deposits and payments are non-refundable unless the space(s) can be filled. In the event of a trip cancellation due to weather, strike, war, quarantine, or other unforeseen emergency situation, a 100% refund will be given, less any expenses incurred by the tour operator.
COVID-19 Considerations & Vaccination Requirements:
Until further notice, all participants in the Georgia Audubon Travel Program must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have had at least one booster at the time of their travel date. Georgia Audubon will verify participants' vaccination status at least two weeks prior to the travel dates. Participants will also be expected to adhere to all local travel guidelines and restrictions at the destination at the time of travel. If you are unable or unwilling to comply with the COVID-19 travel precautions, please do not register for this event at this time.
